Australian wildlife bingo – now complete!
Friends, we’ve had some serious luck on this trip when it comes to wildlife spotting. We have seen some amazing stuff and taken a few thousand amazing photos (we know, you’re grateful for this blog vs the invitation to sit through an endless slide show on our return!). And since my previous post (wild about wildlife) our luck has continued, so wanted to share a quick update.
Lucky break #1: A farm with a resident platypus.
We stayed on a farm. A full-on, working farm. And through their fields of cattle lived a platypus, that could sometimes be seen.
‘Sometimes’ seemed like an odd review, since every time we went down to the pond this awesome guy was frolicking about:
It was pretty amazing!
2. Lucky break #2: Our mostly private night tour at Bonorong.
Jay likes nice things. His favourite 3 words are premium, private and exclusive. (Also beer, dogs, cheese).
After all our wildlife sightings we felt a trip to Bonorong would be the perfect place to see anything we’d missed. And, since we hadn’t seen a whole lot of nocturnal animals we booked a night tour that promised to be semi private (this was a compromise from the private tour Jay would have preferred). But luck struck again, and only one other person was booked on our tour. We had the whole place – and all the animals! – to ourselves.
We met Millie, the Wombat.
These Devils.
Randall, a hungry echidna.
A happy koala
These Spotted Quolls were insanely cute.
And Jay got up close and personal with these demanding guys.
It was a pretty great night!
3. Lucky break #3: We saw a white walker!
After all our epic spotting, there was only one find left on our list, and we figured the odds of seeing it in the wild were next to nil. But since we found ourselves on Bruny Island, we figured we should at least make an effort to see one of their fabled White Wallabies.
So we went for a drive, and saw a virtual rainbow of Wallaby wonder.
The sun was setting, so we snapped a ton of photos (and hopefully a couple good ones).
We couldn’t believe our luck!
Tasmania has been good to us. Very good. And pretty lucky too.
