Farewell Asia
The time has come to say farewell,
to our month-long honeymoon –
It sure has been swell!
We’re taking home stuff and memories galore
And maybe a touch of Dysentery, it’s hard to know for sure…
But of course there are things that we will miss
so before i forget them, here’s my goodbye list:
Farewell noodles and farewell rice
So long to gross desserts semi-based in ice
Farewell to horking bus drivers and nasal passage clearing
And good riddance to all the in-the-street street spitting
So long to coffee filtered through a sock
And all sorts of tasty things fried in a wok
Bye bye to warm weather and open toed shoes
But also to sweaty chaffing (sorry if that was crude)
Farewell to tourists with selfie sticks that could take out an eye
And the occasional chilli so hot I could cry
Goodbye to oily vegetables and everything fried
And to sugar and carbs that are making me wide!
Goodbye to bargaining, which brings me so much joy
And also to Jay’s ‘little black dog’, for he was a good boy
Farewell to Massi, our concierge in Penang
He would do anything to help us, every time we rang
Tootles to Mr Mao, our tour guide who chose to barely talk
And informed us that Ankor Wat was made from volcanic rock (…it was not)
Good riddance to Kun Kaya toast that never sat right
And to all sorts of other foods that went wrong during the night
Our adventures and stories were truly the best,
But now it’s time to head home for a rest
While we’ve been living it up, there are things we have missed
So here’s my ‘can’t wait to come home to’ list:
Back to low-fat dairy like yogurt and milk
(The dairy here was of a whole other ilk!)
Home to groceries, tap water and toilets that flush –
Whoever thought that would give us such a rush!
Home to bathroom doors that close – and even better – seal
We’ve had some terribly awkward reveals!
Home to our doggies and our fishies too,
(We thought about them lots at the Singapore zoo)
Home to the gym and the need to work out,
It’s a wonder this trip hasn’t given me gout!
And sigh… back to work on Monday I’ll go
Though I’m not looking forward to trudging through snow 🙁
Back to traveling on the right side of the road
And relaxing in our brand new (finished?) abode
Home to our families and of course our friends
That’s what we’re most looking forward to as our journey ends
So Asia, you’re awesome, thanks for the fun
It won’t be long before we’re missing your overpowering sun
We’d love to come back sometime
There’s so much more to see
But for now we’re looking forward to our own country
